Posts: 405 Feb 16 08 8:59 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	One thing that is important to consider before beginning a discussion on this board is: has this actor or celebrity made a clear decision to serve the Lord Jesus Christ? Have they made clear statements about their faith in Jesus Christ as the only-begotten Son of God? As noted above, we are looking for good role models, not perfect people, but people that are trying to walk the walk and who express their faith in word and in action. If they falter, flub and fall on their face, they may still be on this board as I have faltered many a time myself, fallen flat on my face, and still am trying to serve the Lord. But if they claim to be a Christian and don't try to walk the walk or talk the talk, this is not the place to post a discussion about them. www.christianactivities.com

I think it is possible, just like I think it is possible to go to high school or college and work in any industry without being forced to compromise on "What would Jesus do." I also think we all fall short - no matter what career we choose. Thank God for Grace! But that is one reason I formed this board - as a place to pray for the difficult walks of the Christian celebrities, as well as a place for some "accountability." www.christianactivities.com

Posts: 3 Nov 6 08 11:49 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Hmm - interesting - but we do have to be careful with analogies. Is "high school/college" the right analogy for acting? There is certainly massive per group pressure at high school/college but there are no conditions applied to your attendance. However, in acting, your contract and the Director apply conditions which could include scenes with kissing, certain unsavoury physical behaviours, language, nudity, etc. The way the film industry is, I certainly would find it very difficult to support my wife, girlfriend or daughter entering such an industry unless they had a clear calling from God and the protection that goes along with it. Oh for a group of wealthy Christian producers?

As a woman in the business world, I found the same conditions applied: "kissing, certain unsavoury physical behaviours, language, nudity, etc." Although they were not written into my contract -- and I wish they HAD been so I could have declined up front -- they were certainly expected. When I worked my way through college at a drug store, the two men in the back, recent college grads, made my job a nightmare every night when I had to take my cash drawer back to the back office: groping, "certain unsavoury physical behaviours," language, etc. When I worked in sales as a young woman, my sales manager tried all sorts of psychological moves on me to get me in a compromising position. I have been chased around an office desk (like a bad cartoon) and hit upon at conventions by my bosses when I worked in the tourism industry. And the fact I said "No" was not taken well by my superiors. You are right that the movie industry can be hazardous to a young woman - so can the business world. The terms may not be written into the contracts, but you are naive if you think the "terms" don't show up frequently and forcefully in the business world as well. I believe Nancy Reagan coined the phrase "Just say no." I was forced to leave three jobs because of sexual harassment. Women in the entertainment industry have the same options I had - decline or quit. www.christianactivities.com

Posts: 1 Nov 21 08 11:45 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It's amazing how hard it is sometimes to figure out which actors/musicians/athletes are Christian ...even when they've stated it publicly! But then, it is nice to get that pleasant surprise when one finds out unexpectedly. For example, apparently Mark Wahlberg is a Christian...? He was interviewed on this past week's Top Gear, and when Clarkson asked him a question in passing about Tom Cruise, MW said, "I don't know. We attend different churches. ...I'm at the one with Jesus, baby." Quite funny, but sadly--I had no idea. It's surprisingly hard to find these things out through google. It took me a lot longer than I'd like to admit to find out that Weird Al was a Christian, for example. (I blame Christian Bale. He seems to mess up all the web searches even when I exclude him.)

Posts: 3 Nov 23 08 3:22 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Kathryn But there are plenty of jobs in the business world which don't require the sort of moral compromises that those jerks tried to force on you and there are plenty of other opportunities when you do say "No" and more so, there are legal defences (the jerks you mentioned were breaking the law!). Not so in acting. If you say "No" as a young actress you might be choosing between your dream to be an actress and compromising your moral and Christian values. The director isn't breaking the law in asking a teen actress to engage in say passionate kissing or "wet T-shirt" or partial nudity. So, where is your defence as a young actress? Of course, if God wanted you to be an actress you could always say "No" and be confident that He'd bless your acting anyway. But it is tough. It seems that showing kids smoking warrants an X-rating but sexually suggestive (subtle and overt) scenes are OK. Over to y'all. Stephen

No one is forcing her to be an actress, and no one is forcing her to do immoral acts. She decides, yes or no. I have said what I have to say on the matter/ Exstock, As for discerning who is a Christian and who isn't, I just go by their bios and public statements. If they sound like a mainstream, church-attending, professing Christian, I am happy to list them here. I have not heard Mark Wahlberg say he is a Christian, but if there is interest in discussing Mark, I'd be happy to add a forum. In fact, I just did some research and he really DOES talk about his faith in interviews. The point of this board obviously isn't to judge who is and isn't a Christian, but to try to lift up for prayer and discussion those actors who profess to be and to try to support good movies and faithful actors who believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, born of a Virgin, crucified on the cross, and resurrected to sit at the right hand of the Father. www.christianactivities.com
